We've decided to hold our second skull art contest dead in the middle of the long hot summer :sun:

:star: The contest folder is up, and open for submissions! :star:

Judging will take place sometime on Friday, 20 July, 2012, to give you plenty of time to get your work lined up for the event.  You may submit your deviations to the contest until 12 Midnight (Central Standard Time) on 20 July, 2012.

Entries do *NOT* have to have a summer theme, we just want you to create your best work EVER!

Entrants may submit up to THREE separate deviations to the contest!!

:skullbones:  THE PRIZES ARE  :skullbones:

FIRST PLACE: 500 deviantART USER POINTS

SECOND PLACE: 400 deviantART USER POINTS

THIRD PLACE: 300 deviantART USER POINTS

No Zombie artwork in this one (sorry), and you must be a member of the SKULL ARTISTS Group by no later than 10 July, 2012.

*The contest judges will be group founders of several of our affiliate groups*

We are way excited about this contest, so let us know what you think!!

So...are there any other requirements beyond the no zombies thing? Like media that are off-limits, whether other items are allowed in the piece besides skulls, things like that? The rules of the contest are just a little vague, but I'd love to enter.

Although we DO accept Zombie artwork (we seriously heart Zombies in here), and have an awesome collection in our Zombie art folder, this contest will focus only on skull art.

Since the theme of the contest deviation entry is up to the artist, whatever else appears in your deviation besides a skull, or skulls, is entirely up to you! Just like the group requirement that a skull, or skulls, must be the central focus of your deviation in order to be included in a gallery folder, the same holds true for this contest... The only requirement is that a skull, or skulls, must be the central focus of your contest submission. Reading the group rules will be helpful to you in understanding what we look for in here.

Other than that, turn your creativity loose! Your theme can be dark, funny, animated, and include other non-skull images - whatever strikes your creative fancy. The only medium we do not accept is literature.

I encourage all group members to think about a deviation before submitting it to a regular gallery folder - do you think it's damn good work on your part? Submit it to the contest folder! We allow three submissions per artist, and yes, you have plenty of time to reconsider what you enter. If you wish to delete a submission in favour of a newer one, just delete the entry, re-submit it to a regular gallery folder, and then submit your newer work to the contest folder.

Since no one affiliated with this group will be judging the contest, (we think that's a fair and impartial way to run a contest) we have no influence over who, or which piece of artwork, wins or places.

I will post another blog this weekend, with more details outlined.

Do we have to create something new for this contest, or can we submit an already existing deviation?

You may submit an older deviation, we don't care when you produced the work, as long as it is not already featured in one of our galley folders, and is new to US... and doesn't appear in a bunch of other dA group galleries.

Of course, we'd love to see you come up with something new between now and 20 July, but how would we know the difference, if we've never seen the work before?

We're not going to be checking dates :XD:

Oh, and another question;
I have two shots of different angles of the same piece. Can I submit both of them as the same entry, or just one?

You are allowed up to three entries - go for it!

But would it be considered one entry if I submitted two shots of the same piece (to show both angles of it), or two entries?

A single entry is a single entry.

Two entries are two entries. Period :)

If the deviations are SO similar that you are worried about this, perhaps you should choose your fave of the two, and simply submit that one.

This is what I'm trying to describe:

It's the same exact piece of art, just two different angles to fully show the design. So can I submit both as a single entry together, or would I have to stitch the two pictures together in Photoshop to essentially do the same thing but submit a single deviation?

Just my opinion, but they are different, so I would submit each one as a separate entry.

Lovely paintings, by the way :)
